On Getting Better

There is an expression “good is the enemy of great.”  We can become complacent because we reach a certain level of success and stop seeking to improve, or we become married to a one size fits all process that is “good enough.”  Another growth obstacle that occurs is what I call “Perfection Anxiety.” We prevent ourselves from trying something new because we don’t see ourselves as “good at that.” We give up too early on something that is difficult, thinking, “at least I tried” or “it’s just not me.” Too many times I have found that perfection can be limiting. As Voltaire said, “Dit que le mieux est l’ennemi du bien,”  “the best is the enemy of the good.” When we focus on just getting a little bit better than we were yesterday, we open a whole new range of things at which we can become “better”.

My name is Peter Maxwell. I have spent most of my life in sales and sales management.  I have coached sales people to become better at selling, and managers to become better at managing. I have decided to create this blog, in the hopes that I can provide ideas to help others get better at what they do, and to invite your feedback in the hopes that I can get better as well. Leave a comment, or share this site with your friends. In the end, I have discovered, its all about getting; Better not Perfect.
